Overview
During and after the recession of 2006-2011, there was very little Commercial Real Estate Lending going on. Biz Lending & Insurance Center, Inc. and most other companies that serviced the CRE industry saw a substantial decrease in business. If it was not for a few CUSO’s hiring us on a consulting basis it would have been very quiet. We had absolutely no idea when the bottom was near or how long it would take for the recovery to unfold. Who could predict how strong or weak a recovery we would experience? Just sitting around and waiting for something to happen was out of the question.
So the mission at BLIC was to find a product or service that could help our Credit Union partners through the recession by attracting new business accounts, new members, new loans and potential new and ongoing fee income. In addition, this new service could not add to the Credit Unions employee costs, technology expenses or facility requirements. This was a tall order.
The answer to this question shot out to us when President Obama started to talk about The Affordable Care Act. With the passage of this law we thought that it might be the leading opportunity to bridge business owners and their employees to the Credit Union.
Then when Chief Justice John Roberts became the deciding vote to ratify The Affordable Care we moved forward to create a full service insurance agency by partnering with some of the best known companies in the Health, Life, Property and Casualty business.

The Affordable Care Act has created a perfect opportunity for the Credit Union to become a product expert and consultant. There are many insurance firms and industry CUSOs with approaches for Credit Unions to deliver “Affordable Care Act” enrollment systems. They are also trained on all the Credit Union’s Business Services Products so they can easily forward leads to the Credit Union’s Relationship Manager.
